WHAT'S UP WITH NIKON

Updated: Jun 14, 2019

The camera that my dad owned slowly transferred into my hands, and it happened to be a Nikon. After spending years with it, I took my first class and they only had Canon cameras that you could check out. I felt like I didn't know how to use a camera when I first used a Canon, but then again, when I was first using a Nikon I didn't know what I was doing either. So mostly, I stuck with Nikon purely because I knew almost all the ins and outs of the camera. And it felt meaningful to me because my father had let me use it.

Yet many people ask me, "Why did you continue on with Nikon?"

I'm here to settle the dust.

To give some perspectives with what I've worked with throughout the past couple of years, I've owned both the Nikon D5100 and the Nikon D7200, and have dabbled in Canon during my photography course. Today I'll be specifically reviewing the Nikon D7200 based on my experiences with the one I currently own. Let me know what camera you use in the comment section below!

PROS

  • Not too heavy

  • Holds two SD card slots

  • Auto and manual focus is extremely sharp and quick

  • High-quality video and sound

  • A lot of mode options (such as shutter speed, aperture, and quick mode) located on the top of the camera for quick access

  • Advanced compared to the older version (Nikon D5100)

  • Better grip than D5100

  • Weatherproof (this is my favorite because there's been many times where I've taken my camera to the beach and have been extremely worried about water droplets splashing on it)

  • It has Wi-fi adapted into it, which is helpful if you wanted to connect it to your computer or mobile device

CONS

  • Can be difficult to work with because the camera allows so many options and possibilities to choose from (I would not recommend this to new photographers)

  • Non-tilting screen (I do not personally consider this a con, but I wanted to reveal that it is not an option for the Nikon D7200)

  • Non-touch screen (You have to use the manual controls which can be a pain sometimes)

Overall, the Nikon D7200 is a quality camera that produces fantastic images. Although the controls and added features might be overwhelming at first, it just takes practices. There's always been a lot of controversy between Nikon and Canon cameras, but I do not think there is a huge difference between any camera brand, just preference. Every photographer brings his or her own visual creativity to life no matter the camera!

xx,

Gabriella
